Vote YES for Wake County School Bonds on November 7, 2006
A large ad was in today’s N&O paid for by Friends of Wake County, http://www.wakebonds2006.com My feeling is, it is important for voters to pass the Wake County Schools bond issue since (as stated in the ad) “Clearly, bonds are the best way to pay. Bonds present the best plan for our citizens, our schools and our children.” What the opposing side may not realize is that Wake County Schools will get the needed funding whether the bond issue passes or not, however it will cost $56 million in additional interest to do it that way. I understand and appreciate that some parents are frustrated because their families have been disrupted by year around schools (which were needed due to school overcrowding . . . do I see a reason for bonds here?) and want to express their displeasure at the ballot box. I guess I don’t get the reasoning. If someone understands it better than I, please make your comments known. If we don’t have more schools to accomodate the “68 people who are born here or move here each day” (do you realize that is three new kindergarten classes a day? Every day?) companies will be reluctant to relocate here, job growth will slow, and property values will be affected. Now, I will step down from my soap box. If you would like to step up, please be my guest.
